DF: Hyperion Capitula ante LoD

DeliAmber

Hello to those of you who have followed these forums from the days of Forumfall and on into release. As many of you know, on Saturday night I checked into Darkfall after enjoying an early Mother's Day with my mother to discover that through a combined attack of the blue, light blue, and purple dots, my kingdom had lost three yellow dots.

It is for this reason that after a long and successful run, I now capitulate to the blue dots, and such leaders as Obidiah of LOD and Bone of Sinister, who are gentlemen I most enjoyed sharing the chessboard with, and whose tactic of lying low and making strategic use of the more vocal alliances bought them an excellent position. Much like a good billiards player doesn't think only about the ball he's currently trying to sink, but about how much force he needs to apply to set up the next shot, the Death Alliance, the blue dots, are the ones who played their hand most favorably, and of all my three antagonists are now poised with the most advantage on the world map.

Although Hyperion has been significantly reduced, under the terms of our capitulation to the Death Alliance, it will continue, and our final holdings will be preserved. The Death Alliance will receive what remuneration we can still provide as contribution toward their endeavors against whatever new enemy they choose to face.

Although my own involvement in Darkfall had dwindled significantly in the past two weeks due to my involvement in a new project, if one were to ask me the reason for the eventual fall of Hyperion, I would say, other than the obvious stacking of the numerical odds against us, (one's conquered enemies are never dead - they just join new enemies!) it would be the attritive effect of the grind of Darkfall itself, which has slowly snuffed out the lights in the leadership of Hyperion, leaving too few new sparks to keep the torch burning.

Although most of the following left Darkfall some time ago, I would like to thank them for their long term contributions to the Hyperion project and its success.

Surly "Von Fishbarrel", the "Baron of Urth", the designer of the original Wessex and Anvil Society websites, Darkfall moderator, fellow political mind, and master of Forumfall, whose forumwarrioring made that of the Goons look amateurish.

Brandoreus DeMedici, the "Doge of Aquileia", who conquered Yssam for us and directed all our armies until NASA called him away from us yet again.

Thirlan Tyrandor, our Wall Street resident, who religiously ran our economy until the end, even when he was the only one to collect taxes, and who has supported us financially through the years.

Red Morgan, another brilliant wit for the forums, leader of a crack pvp clan, and whose extraordinary pvp skills might only have been compared to Haeso le Gaude's.

Of course, Haeso le Gaude, who gave Hyperion pvp a face and a name.

Miles Dei, star of American sitcoms, man of the world, and jack of all trades, whose charisma and force of personality was a beacon. A good friend who thrilled and revelled at the escapades peppering the rise of Hyperion as much as I did.

Lord Aethelric Brandt, "the Abbott of Andruk", whose broad intellect and love of history was right at home in Hyperion, and who was the type of person I loved creating it for.

Tibador, "the Duke of Kirdain", who as a clan leader was an inspiration to us all because he never let his autism limit his ambition, or vice versa.

Lady Noraya, "the Baroness of Waleron", who was the only one who truly understood the feudal system, not just in terms of loyalty, but in following the letter of the contract and not fudging or hedging.

Lady Isobel, who rose from obscurity to the royal court of Hyperion during its final hour to fill a needed void in leadership as "Lady Chamberlain", and who did so with aplomb.

Lady Sempiternam, the "Royal Secretary" and voice of Hyperion, who tied Hyperion together with her charisma, and who has always personally supported me, not only when my schedule became as full as a real job, but morally as well. "ding dong!"

Carl, "the Baron of Deephold", who arrived too late, but who I know, with his temperance, experience, and smooth talent for arbitration, would have been a major star of Hyperion if we had met with him in the beginning.

Lady Nira Nadhair, who did more than anyone else to organize the Hyperion feudal theme and established the streamlined process for uniform signature creation and education of Hyperion officials.

Covo, the designer of the new Wessex website and countless extraordinary graphics throughout the Hyperion chain of sites.

Lord Raven, Sir Rhygar, and Sir Kaylem, who ran Wessex for me when I had to leave and go be the king, and did so better than I could have hoped.

And all the others who supported the idea of Hyperion as not just a zerg, not just a gaming clan, but a working kingdom for an MMO game, and contributed their time and enthusiasm through the years.

Though we diminish now, and yield our position on the world stage to whatever up and comers lie in store, let me personally remark and reflect upon the experience and run of Hyperion. From the end of 07, through 08, and into 09, Wessex, the Anvil Society, and Hyperion threads dominated every page of clan discussion, every day. At the height of the kingdom's power in Darkfall, I ruled 27 clanstones within the map of Agon and controlled Dvergheim, Morak, Mercia and Yssam, and drew tax from all of them. No alliance at present controls so much, no matter what is said -even if their memberbase is larger. ;-) I created Hyperion out of both a love of theater and a love of war, as an outgrowth of my lifelong study of the martial arts and thus, strategy. I have considered the experience invaluable.

I therefore throw my hat into the ring as I bow out, and offer a gracious challenge for anyone else to match these accomplishments in the future months of Darkfall.

Look for me in an upcoming American martial arts television series which is as yet unnamed, as well as in the upcoming action movie, "Fierce Target".

And so to all those on Forumfall who have watched our hijinks through the years, good night and good luck.

Manus, by the Grace of God, King of Hyperion, Morak, Dvergheim, Mercia and Yssam, Duke of Wessex.

manufontes

En mi opinion a muerto una HIPER-Zerg para dar paso a un FULLSERVER-Zerg

KoKiTO
