OK, so I was trolling a bit with my ‘sync button’ status but let me expand with a more serious and thoughtful post about my first experience of using these players. Turned up at last night’s show to find 4 CDJ2000 Nexus rather than the usual CDJ2000s, so figured I’d have a play with the controversial button to see what all the fuss was about.
The biggest difference? Not much. Doing 100+ gigs a year has meant the actual process of keeping the records in time is relatively second nature to me anyway but these new players freed up a small amount of extra time, which I used to dig deep into the vault of my SD card, pulled out a bunch of records that I hadn’t played for years, and was also able to mix out of tracks quickly, loop stuff, and generally be more creative. All benefits my laptop DJ colleagues who’ve enjoyed sync for years have had. My set went in a few directions I wasn't expecting it to go, purely based on the vibe in the room, and I ended up playing nearly 4 hours (helped by Toronto's incredible crowd).
Cloing thought: whilst the reaction of a few is OMFG SYNC BUTTON URE FAKING URE SET I actually found the opposite was true, and I ended up playing a longer, more diverse & varied set than I would otherwise have done. I guess like many things in this wonderful world of dance music, when you dig deep and look at the subtleties & complexities of a situation, you find the reality is often rather different to the headline.

The infamous Sync button on the CDJ 2000 Nexus.
So yesterday was my first experience playing with this new CDJ. I got up to the stage to notice a familiar yet not setup. The overall feel was the same but with a few slight differences, such as the track display. It was a very hot and bright day and I found myself not being to see almost anything that was LED lit up, hence why I did not notice the sync button being left on by the previous act.
For the most part, I notice the difference almost immediately. Certain tracks had this unusual warble to them, where the drums didn't sound clean and sharp, to the point where I felt something was wrong with the CDJ itself. While the tracks were in "sync", they seemed to be floating around, which makes sense if you think about it. Essentially what sync does is time stretch, which will never be as accurate as time resembling (pitch shifting).
After the sun set, only did I notice what was going on and promptly turned the button off. In conclusion, this is probably something I'd never use personally, as beat,synching isn't exactly a rocket science. If you want smooth transitions as a DJ, the. I'd recommend you learn the right and only way, which is Sync button free.
Anda que no, si es que te ofrece todo un mundo de posiblidades, yo antes ni tocarlo y ahora lo uso casi siempre, ¿por qué no usarlo? te facilita muchísimo las cosas, puedes hacer mezclas mucho más cortas, mashups y edits en vivo, jugar con los loops entre temas, mezclar distintos géneros mucho más fácilmente y un montón de cosas más que me dejo.
Hay mucha gente que se empeña en seguir viviendo en el pasado. Que si, que tiene mucho mérito mezclar a 4 platos y a oido pero no por ello vas a ser mejor DJ.
Eso si, si no tienes los beatgrid puestos correctamente, ni sync ni hostias.
Aun asi, estando de acuerdo con Eveyx lo que acaba de poner Herre puede ser un asunto, y si es cierto que se pierde calidad?
Qué gozada es esta época del año con tantas sesiones buenas para escuchar.

Vaya bailes epics que me marco en mi cuarto; hay veces que según el tema que entra me vuelvo muy loco, estado de locura, no puedo parar de moverme y romperme bailando como un hijo de puta.

Ya he oido el de Myon & Shane y si es bueno, pero no se, me gusto mucho mas el anatomy de este año, de hecho si me tuviera que quedar con una sesión del 2012 seria esa.
Si en vez de en verano lo sacaran a finales de año, sería el mejor yearmix con diferencia. Si, soy un fanboy.
