Steambans Detox Anti-cheat (Source) coming:
The Steambans development team has been working on a brand new anti-cheat serverside plugin for Half-Life 2 (Source) based games.
We have been getting more and more requests from the community to help with detecting and blocking cheats and possible CVAR hacks that could lead to unfair gameplay. Two of our developers, sslice (creator of CVAR-X and IRCRelay for HL2) and opi (creator of the previous CAL DSP plugins) have been working on creating a stable, reliable anti-cheat solution for Source.
The result of this will be Steambans Detox and will feature:
1) A successor to CVAR-X. In one of their recent updates, Valve introduced a new interface to query almost any clients cvar. It will differ in functionality to cvarx where cvarx just reverted and aliased out certain cvars, the new plugin will have the ability to actually retrieve values for each cvar it checks and kick/ban the offending player for a certain duration based on the exploitability of the cvar.
2) A list of exploitable or offending cvars will be retrieved periodically from the steambans detox servers automatically by the plugin.
3) Anti-Wallhack built-in.
4) More features soon to be announced.
How does it work?
A scan will start when people join a Detox protected server for each client. After the scan is done (approx 5 seconds) it will either give a message back to the user that he/she is in violation with the terms or just let him/her continue gaming.
We expect this plugin to be available before the end of january and continue working very hard to complete this as soon as possible.
