Introduction from the band
Katatonia was formed in 1991 by Anders Nyström and Jonas Renske & their debut album, ‘Dance of December Souls’, was released in 1993, gaining the band recognition for their eclectic brand of gothic doom/death metal & joining acts such as Paradise Lot & My Dying Bride as one of the genre’s defining bands. On future albums a newer, sleeker Katatonia sound came to the fore, starting with a streamlined & structured collection of melodic dark rock songs that became third album ‘Discouraged Ones’; the main evolution point for modern day Katatonia.
On the back of the monumental & most successful album to date, 2006’s ‘The Great Cold Distance’ - including 3 singles & American & European tours - Katatonia took their time with their next steps, while Anders & Jonas also remained busy with death metal group Bloodbath, alongside Mikael & Martin from Opeth.
‘Night is the New Day’ is Katatonia’s eighth studio album. It was recorded throughout July 2009 & was co-produced, engineered and mixed by David Castillo. Recording was divided between Studio Mega (for drums) and Ghost Ward Studios, where most recording took place & which provided a dose of inspiration from the darker corners of life with it’s choice of location, as Anders describes:
“Broken glass, blood on the walls at the front door to the building and threatening messages written on the elevator - Even excrement and urine on the floor in the basement that makes you wonder if the caretaker is a serial killer himself”
Mastering was completed at Fascination Street Studios (where ‘The Great Cold Distance’ was recorded) with Jens Bogren.
A continuation of the heaviness, depth & atmosphere of their previous album, ‘Night Is the New Day’ is also a more multi-dimensional effort - waltzing between prog moments, doom, folk & the classic melodic anthems that are the staple of Katatonia’s uncompromising sound, completed by the haunting tones of Jonas Renkse’s vocal journeys of urban & emotional decay.

Si alguien me puede insertar el video y la imagen estaría eternamente agradecido...
Las partes percusivas me recuerdan a un metalcore cualquiera, lo tengo muy cruzado, pero el resto es totalmente sueco, mola.
Los primeros discos para mi gusto son los mejores pero este tiene muy buena pinta, a ver como sale.

Muyyyy escuchable, canciones con partes cañeras pero en general musica sin prisas, todo con el toque oscurillo que suele venir desde Suecia y voces tranquilitas en general. Muy fino.
He puesto una ref en el post de recomendaciones de noviembre.

A mi nunca me han gustado demasiado pero he de reconocer que al Mechanize le estoy metiendo caña, las voces limpias me descolocan un poco, pero no esta nada mal

Ostia que locura la caja de Fear Factory xDDDD, menudo puntazo, jajaja
Ya puestos a mirar la caja esa, me he hecho con una copia virtual del disco y toy escuchandolo ahora mismo (toy por algo más de la mitad del disco) y de momento me parece un discazo de cojones!!
Ahora como han dicho por ahi, falta que vengan por las Españas

FC: How many bands are you managing? Who are they?
AF: At present IŽm managing 7 bands and a producer/songwriter. The other bands are Paradise Lost, Katatonia, Bloodbath, Oceansize, Inme, White light, the producer Jens Bogren and the guitarist Jan Cyrka.[...]
FC: How do you think that changing the bandmembers has affected the band (Opeth)?
AF: Well, itŽs been a headache for me on the paperwork and business side, but musically I think Martin Lopez gave the band an almost latin jazz feel in his drumming but Martin Axenrot has become a solid back bone powerhouse in the band.[...]

XDDD que va a decir ...
Lo comente con el batera de mi grupo, que bueno, Axe es un gran profesional y sin duda aire fresco para el grupo (los fills en Porcelain Heart son increibles) pero nos gusta bastante más el toque que tenia el tito Martin, me impresiona especialmente verle en el Lamentations.
